SOUTH ARRETON is a civil parish, 1 mile south-east from Horringford station and 2 miles east from Blackwater station on the Sandown branch of the Southern railway, 4 miles south-east from Newport and 8 south-west from Ryde.
In 1894 the ancient parish of Arreton was, under the 'Local Government Act, 1894,' divided into North and South.
By Local Government Board Order No. 32,507, dated April 1st, 1895, part of North Arreton was added to Ashey civil parish.
By Local Government Board Order No. 50,177, 1st April, 1907, the remainder was annexed to Whippingham civil parish.
North Arreton names are given under Whippingham.
