Brook, Civic
The Brook Parish had 183 inhabitants in 1871, and comprises 713 acres of land.
Off Brook Point there is a singular submerged fossilised forest.
Charles Seely, Esq., M.P., the present lord of the manor, owns most of the parish, and resides at Brook House., which he has recently much improved.
The Church (St. Mary the Virgin) was, with the exception of the tower, burned down on December 9, 1862, and the present stone edifice was built in 1863, at the cost of 2,000GBP, raised by subscription, C. Seely, Esq., M.P., giving 600GBP.
Here is a small Primitive Methodist Chapel.
At Hulverstone are a Free School, supported by Mr. Seely, and also a Free Library, presented by him.
