YAVERLAND is a parish is situated about 8 miles east-south-east from Newport, 5 south from Ryde, and a mile south from Brading, overlooking Sandown bay.
The church (not dedicated) is a small ancient Norman edifice of stone brought from Brittany, situated on the side of a hill, half a mile from the coast, shaded by a grove of elms, and is an object of great interest, having been built in the fifteenth century : the entrance is through an arch originally portion of a cell dedicated to St. Urian, dating from the fourteenth century.
