TOTLAND BAY is an ecclesiastical parish, formed in 1875 from Freshwater parish. Christ Church, built in 1875, at a cost, of 3,800GBP, is a stone edifice in the Early English style.
Weston Manor, the residence of Edwin Granville Ward esq. is a large, handsome stone building situated on a hill, and commands extensive views of the Solent and inland scenery attached to the house is a, very beautiful Catholic chapel, dedicated to St. Saviour; the services are open to the public.
There is a large hotel at Alum Bay. A very commodious hotel was erected and opened in 1880, called the Totland Bay Hotel, and a new pier was also constructed in connection with it.
There is an excellent pottery in this district, the property of Mr. Henry Dowty, where the celebrated red ware is made solely by hand : the works are open daily to visitors.
